At the Winery
Winery
Established in 1858 by English immigrant Edward Tyrrell, Tyrrell's is among Australia's pre-eminent family owned wine companies. Fourth generation Bruce Tyrrell has handed over the company to son Chris Tyrrell.
At the foot of New South Wales' striking Brokenback Range, their historic Sacred Site vineyards are the cornerstone of Tyrrell's: Old Patch Shiraz (1867), 4 Acres Shiraz (1879), 8 Acres Shiraz (1892), Johnno's Shiraz (1908), Johnno's Semillon (1908), HVD Semillon (1908) and HVD Chardonnay (1908). Tyrrell's Winemakers Selection is one of Australia's oldest collections. Each wine is named after its Vat number, taken from the oak maturation vessels still used to make the wine.
Tyrrell's makes a vast array of wine styles and varietals. The iconic Vat 1 Semillon and Vat 9 Shiraz are the flagships. Old Patch, 4 Acres and 8 Acres Shiraz and their Single Vineyard wines follow closely.
